Dozens of people have been killed and injured after days of heavy bombardment, leaving medical facilities and shelters struggling to cope amid a growing crisis. Our senior international correspondent Orla Guerin has been to Rayak Hospital, which has admitted hundreds of casualties over the past week. Noor Mossawi, aged six, is one of a number of people in critical condition. "I was soothing her, telling her not to be afraid," recalls her mother Rima of the aftermath of the strike that's left her daughter fighting for her life. The hospital's medical director Dr Basil Abdallah says the trauma is affecting the staff as well as the patients. "We have emotions," he says. "We are human." | | | | | | | | |

McDonald's failed to spot slavery of men trafficked to UK | | The BBC has discovered that McDonald's failed to stop the exploitation of nine men who had been trafficked to the UK from the Czech Republic and forced to work in a branch of the fast-food chain. They were brought to the UK by members of a Czech criminal gang. Nearly all of their wages were stolen by the criminals but McDonalds didn't notice the signs they were victims of modern slavery even though some were working up to 100 hours a week.
