The Israel Defense Forces said about 300 targets were hit overnight, as they continue to intensify air and ground attacks deeper into the territory. The Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has rejected calls for a ceasefire, saying "this is the time for war". The charity, Unicef, says the situation in Gaza is growing worse by the hour, and the "true cost of this latest escalation will be measured in children’s lives". Israel has been bombing Gaza since the 7 October Hamas attacks that killed 1,400 people and saw at least 239 people taken hostage. Gaza hostage situation and Covid inquiry revelations The Daily Mail focuses on what it calls "chilling footage" released by Hamas on Monday of three Israeli women the group is holding hostage in Gaza. The i newspaper is one of many to run a picture of Israeli soldier Ori Megidish, who was rescued from Gaza.
