Image: Reuters UK on track to hit record tax levels, says think tank After a series of revenue-generating measures in recent years, the government is on course to oversee the biggest tax-raising Parliament since records began, according to the Institute for Fiscal Studies. It says taxes will amount to about 37% of national income by the next general election, expected next year. The analysis is published two days before the Conservative Party conference begins in Manchester and at a time when some Tory MPs are piling pressure on PM Rishi Sunak and Chancellor Jeremy Hunt to start reducing taxes. Last week Mr Hunt said tax cuts would be "virtually impossible" at present. So what next for the country's coffers?
