Image: Melody Powell Disabled flyers angry at airline 'double charging' Flying can be expensive enough as it is, but not many of us would be happy to pay double. That's the situation faced by disabled people who are told by some airlines to buy a full-price ticket for a personal care assistant (PA). The BBC has been investigating this issue, contacting more than 100 airlines. Carriers are advised to offer a subsidised ticket for a PA but don’t have to. Some disabled people need a companion to fly, while others do not but are told by airlines that they do - and must pay full price. Disabled plane passengers we spoke to about their experiences say the situation is discriminatory and there needs to be "drastic international collaboration" to improve the situation. | | | | | | | | | | |
